Sensei Scott has been training and studing Shorin-Ryu Karate since
1982 under his instructor of 20 years, Frank
Hargrove, 8th Dan, Kyoshi. He trains two days a week with
Hargrove Sensei .
He currently holds the rank of Yondan (4th Degree Black
Belt) in Shorin-Ryu Karate-do and the rank of Yondan (4th degree Black Belt)
in Ryukyu Kobudo
(Okinawan Weapons). Scott Hayes is a N.A.S.K.A Certified Chief
Instructor and has the title of Shihan.
Sensei Scott is on the Board of Directors of the North
American Shorin-Ryu Karate Do Association
( N.A.S.K.A).
Currently seven of Scott Hayes' students have earned their black belts in
Shorin-Ryu Karate-do. Two have earned their Nidan, and five have earned their Shodan. These students were prompted by Kyoshi
Frank Hargrove. Four students have earned their black belts in Ryukyu
Kobudo, three 2nd Degree Black Belts and one 1st Degree Black Belts, and
who were also promoted by Kyoshi Hargrove.
Over the years his students have competed in the AAU tournament circuit
with the following results:
- 3 National Champions in Kobudo
- 1 National Double Medalist - Silver (Kobudo) and Bronze (Kata)
- 1 National Double Medalist - Silver (Kumite) and Bronze (Kobudo)
- 1 National Double Medalist - Silver (Kobudo) and Bronze (Kumite)
- 1 National Double Medalist - Silver (Kumite) and Sliver (Kobudo)
- 1 National Triple Bronze Medalist - Kata, Kobudo, Kumite
- 2 National Triple Medalist - Silver (Kata), Silver (Kobudo) & Bronze (Kumite)
- 1 National Silver Medalist - (Kobudo)
- 13 Regional Champions
- 16 State Champions
Scott Hayes received his college degree from William and Mary. During his
time at William and Mary he also studied Judo and Medieval Sword Fighting.
- Jodi Sullivan, Nidan (2nd Degree), Sensei

Jodi Sullivan is very active in the dojo. She currently is a Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in Shorin_Ruy and an Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in Ryukyu Kobudo.
She is a member of the Black Belt Club and the Leadership Team, and is the
Assistant Head Coach of the Tournament Team. She has a good balance of compassion
and strictness, knowing when to use each of them.
At the Dojo she helps out at the front desk, teaches the introductory
lessons, assists with the classes, and runs special programs at the Dojo.
Jodi is a active member of the Tournament team. She is both a competitor and a coach for the team. She has won State and Regional Championships in Kata and Kobudo in 1999 and 2000. She is an ACEP Certified Coach.
Jodi Sullivan started karate after her two sons and husban started. Once she started it was full steam ahead.
- Ed Sullivan, Nidan (2nd Degree), Sensei

For Ed Sullivan, Shorin-Ryu is not his first style of karate. He is very
dedicated to karate and strives to help everyone be the best they can be.
Ed currently is a Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in Shorin-Ryu
Karate-do and a Nidan (2nd degree Black Belt) in Ryukyu Kobudo. Including himself,
Ed's family has 5 family members training (Ed, Jodi, Chris, Matthieu, Katlyne).
Ed is a member of the Black Belt Club and the Leadership Team, and is an Assistant Coach for the Tournament Team. He is also an AAU Certified Official.
Like his wife Jodi, Ed is very active in the tournaments. In the 1999
season, Ed was the Virginia State Champion and the Regional Champion in
Kata and Kobudo. In the 2000 season he was the Regional Champion in
Kobudo, Kata, and Kumite. In the 2001 season, Ed became a certified AAU
Referre.
- Robert Hayes, Nidan (2nd Degree), Sensei

Robert Hayes is a Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) in Shorin-Ryu Karate and in Ryukyu Kobudo (Weapons). He is active in the Dojo as a student and as a teacher, applying his skills where they can be the most help.
Sensei Robert is 17 and currently attends a local high school where he will be a senior this fall. maintains an "A/B" grade average.
Though not overly fond of tournaments, Sensei Robert won 3 Bronze Metals
at the 1997 AAU Karate Nationals. He is also a coach for the tournament team
